Diesen seltenen Fehler habe ich zuletzt im Oktober 2002 beobachtet.
Wie bei jedem Pilotversuch treten auch beim PDL-Automaten der Firma Samkyung einige Fehler auf. Eines der Ziele des Pilotprojekts ist schließlich, möglichst viele Fehler zu eliminieren. Hier versuche ich, die am häufigsten aufgetretenen Fehler aufzulisten und mit Bildschirmphotos zu illustrieren.
Als Erläuterung erstmal bloß der englische Text aus einer e-Mail von mir an einen Samkyung-Mitarbeiter...
Dieser Fehler trat nur selten auf, offenbar nur beim Versand eines Auslandsbriefs. Mir ist er nie passiert, daher weiß ich nicht genau, was dahintersteckt, aber die Sprache war fast immer Englisch, ist im Photo unten aber deutsch. Der Bildschirm sieht völlig normal aus, es passiert einfach nur nichts.

Door remains open for hours: This error happened only once to me, but I often encountered automates in this state. This only happens if someone wants to send an international letter (which I nearly never do), never with domestic letters, maybe only when the English language is used (I don't remember seeing it in German, but I might be wrong). Korrektur: Habe ich dann doch mal auf Deutsch erwischt, siehe Bild. Everything seems normal, but when I want to place the letter with the now affixed stamp back into the automate, it does not respond. The door remains open indefinitely. Once I found it remained open overnight. Other collectors reported that when they manually close and re-open the door, ofter a few tries the automate regains function. I did not test this because I do not want to damage the automate.

Today the Samkyung automate in Köln again went out of service. I was just making a registered letter, the registration label came out, and then an error message appeared on the screen: »Pass error 87: Parameter not valid«. I photographed it,
but I only have a regular camera, so I need to wait for finishing the film and have it developed. Anyway, while I was making pictures, the waiting period of the automate was over, the door closed, and the main menu appeared. I hadn't clicked away the error message, it disappeared when the main menu appeared. But the main menu was compoletely unresponsive: Whenever I touched the screen, the mouse arrow appears, but none of the buttons reacted. And I tried all of them, even the hidden password entry space, nothing worked. Interestingly the screensaver worked, and the automate did play music while showing the Post presentation in the upper screen. Touching the screensaver brought up the main menu, but it was still unresponsive, so I left.
Diesen seltenen Fehler habe ich am 21.11.2002 zuletzt beobachtet.
Diese Bilder entstanden zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt.
Der momentan am häufigsten auftretende Fehler.
Pass: Bitmap image is not valid: I encountered this error several times, I think it first happened after the removal of the »Nachnahme« capability for registered letters. This does not crash the automate, just the next screen is severely distorted, the background image is missing, amd sometimes the menu fields have weird content (linke »nein« instead of numbers when prompted for the amount of stamps already on the letter, making it impossible to specify it ==> »neinnein is not a valid floating point value«). Most times the automate remains useable, but sometimes the menu items are off the screen and thus unuseable. The error seems to be »contageous«, i. e. first only one error per transaction, but soon the errors per transaction increase, and finally I end up with a system in main menu that is unresponsive to any click on the main menu items, but the screensaver still activates after a minute.
I also often encountered automates already in this unresponsive state.
This error happened in Aachen on the first day, gladly the postal officers
immeditely rebooted the automate, and everything was fine again.
Der Fehler trat auch am Ersstag des Geräts im Bonner Posttower auf, auch hier beseitigte ein Rechnerneustart das Problem.
Dieser Fehler war seit der Wegnahme der Nachnahme (4./5. Software) ähnlich häufig wie »Bitmap image not valid«. Seit Ende Oktober 2002 tritt er jedoch fast gar nicht mehr auf, und wenn, dann bevor Geld eingeworfen werden kann.
Black screen of death: When I pay the screen shows for a second or so the »Windows 98« logo and then goes black, complete crash. It even keeps my money, but does not issue a stamp. This happened several times to me, beginning with the introduction of the possibility to send up to 20 regular letters. There is a small warning sign: The voice saying »Please pay per GeldKarte or cash« becomes less loud at the end. That saved some of my money to be swallowed by the automate... When the automate is rebooted it gives the money back after the system check is completed.
09.11.2002: But when I paid, the automate again crashed: a few seconds »Windows 98«, then a blank screen. But this time it was different from previous black screen experiences: Inside the automate there was a beep every five seconds for about a minute, and the interface screen (only that screen, not the screnn above that always shows the postal advertisings) showed a blinking »no signal« for about 20 seconds. That is unusual, before this the automate always was completely dead when showing a black screen crash. Of course it kept my money as usual.
Inzwischen hat sich der nur noch sehr selten auftretende Fehler noch insoweit geändert, daß der Absturz jetzt immer unmittelbar vor der Zahlungsaufforderung auftritt, so daß zumindest kein Geld mehr verschluckt wird.
Pass: Invalid argument: I encontered this error several times. It only happens when I send a domestic letter (maybe international letter as well, but I nearly never send those) and the automate asks me if I want a receipt. When I click Yes this error occurs. When I click on OK in the error message, I get a grey screen with the word Luftpostaufkleber (air mail label), and the voice says »Please take your receipt«, but there is no receipt. The screen stays grey and unresponsive (at least for 20 minutes, the longest time I waited). This happened last this Saturday evening (26.10.2002) in Köln. The automate either recovered by itself, or someone fixed it today (Sunday), because the automate worked nicely this afternoon.
Diesen Fehler habe ich zuletzt am 26.10.2002 erlebt.
